County Redevelopment

Redevelopment is one of the most important tools a community has to breathe new life into areas in need of revitalization, economic development and new opportunities while responding to economic conditions.

Authorized under the provisions of the California Community Redevelopment Law, the County established the Redevelopment Agency (CoRDA) in 1980. Since that time the County has formed five redevelopment project areas, though only four are managed by the CoRDA to provide focused public investment in these areas to shape more prosperous and sustainable communities.

CoRDA provides a wide range of services that aim to create cross-departmental collaborations and partnerships between public and private entities. The CoRDA focuses on:

  • Creating jobs
  • Retaining and expanding existing businesses
  • Building public facilities and necessary infrastructure
  • Preserving, improving and developing affordable housing
The County of San Bernardino Redevelopment Agency (the “RDA”) was established in 1980 under California Community Redevelopment Law. Through its special legal and financial mechanisms, the RDA:

  • Alleviates conditions of blight in identified communities throughout the County;
  • Addresses the growing needs and services to its residents; and,
  • Ensures that the County’s economic base grows and remains healthy by providing new public improvements, commercial and industrial development, and affordable housing.
